The
Veterans of Foreign Wars and Post 3006 needs YOU! The Veterans of this country
should keep their eyes and hands on the pulse of the country.
It is only by each of us taking part, that we are able to do this. There is
strength in numbers, and we must, for our children and grandchildren's sake,
have an active role in what goes on in this Country. So, come on out and take
part in all the programs that the VFW sponsors.
Each
year the VFW and Auxiliary sponsor the following programs:
Voice of
Democracy Program-The student is
given a topic for an essay, it is then taped, they are judged on
how well they voice their opinion and deliver it.
The students (grade 10-12) can win bonds on local level, and
scholarships on State Level.
Youth Essay Contest: This Contest is for Middle School
Students. Their Essay is 350 words, and there is no speaking
part. They can win bonds on the Local, District and State Level.
Scholarships: There are three separated Scholarships that
can be applied for on the State Level. The Parent or Grandparent
of the Student MUST be a member of the Organization.
Patriotic Art Contest: High School
Student participate in this contest. There are certain
guidelines they must follow. Bonds won on Local and State Level.
The Post also sponsors the VFW Little League Baseball Team.The
VFW provides members with help and information on Programs and
Benefits that they can qualify for. The VFW also has a Service
Office (Jim Ward) who can answer questions concerning services
for said Veteran .
The VFW Post VFW Post 3006 also helps the Rowan
County Veterans Council with Military Rites for Veteran's
Families.
They also work with other Veteran's Organizations in this county
to keep on top of issues concerning our National Cemetery and
the VA Medical Center.
